Self-respect is the Balance
Currently there is more propaganda than education when it comes to understanding yourself. Information is power, and those who control it feel they have the power. But information about yourself cannot be controlled, only manipulated. For instance the misinformation in regards to self-esteem I believe has been an attempt to confuse a generation. Trying to feel good about yourself with nothing to feel good about is ridiculous, and leads the poor participant into a cavern of confusion with nothing but echoes to guide their way. So to be clear, self-esteem is an emotional evaluation of yourself, how you feel about yourself, or self-reflection. There is nothing more to this than just the general feeling about yourself. Self-respect is the care for one’s dignity of one’s character.

Why the push for all children to be concerned with self-esteem may be diabolical or just the result of the last generation not having a clue about reality and taking their academically vacuumed common sense into action. Self-esteem is like the ripple after a rock has been tossed into a puddle, or like a painting of a garden; it is only the reflection or reaction to something real.

Self-respect would be the rock to the puddle, or the gardener who created the garden. Self-respect is the attention one has for standards and is the important part to dignity. Those with standards have dignity, those who have no standards have no self-respect. Self-esteem follows naturally with self-respect and doesn’t naturally need to be consciously considered since it’s an emotional response, reflexive. Regret and pride are reactions to your behavior, that conscience part of your brain that allows you to gage yourself. This marketing push to improve self-esteem ignores the vital element to it, self-respect.

Life coaches (as they call themselves) are generally sufferers from low self-esteem, and made it their life pursuit to fix their problem. Books, blogs, and Psychology/Psychiatric careers have made it their mission on how to raise, or build, self-esteem. They have identified that the root cause of depression is low self-esteem. Low self-esteem is depression, but you can’t change the response without effecting the cause. The cause of low self-esteem must be the focus. Their focus is not on the character of the individual but solely on the emotional state of the individual. Then to add gas to this fire their standards of right and wrong is developed and confirmed by themselves or those around them.  They view the perception of society as their standard of worth, how others esteem you, is how you esteem you. That’s like digging in a graveyard in search for life. Not only are you looking in the wrong place, you’re digging your own grave.

Don’t worry about your self-esteem, worry about your self-respect. And what is this in respect to? Standards, truth, the universal way that is right. At Knowledge Cubed we see this as those ‘rights’ confirmed by the laws of nature. In other words, if nature does not go along with that idea of right, then it’s not right it’s wrong. An imbalance to the law of living is the process of decay, depression or low self-esteem are also signs of decay. You can laugh it up, drink it up, drug it up, or cover it up, but the truth is absolute. You are going to have to deal with it, your character, and the level of respect you have with the standards of living as confirm by the laws of Nature and of nature’s God.
